01About IndabaX Burundi
IndabaX Burundi is a volunteer-led artificial intelligence community in Burundi and part of the wider Deep Learning Indaba movement.
We bring together students, researchers, educators, engineers, professionals and other people interested in machine learning and artificial intelligence to build knowledge, develop connections and strengthen participation in AI across Burundi.
Through locally led activities and our annual IndabaX gathering, we contribute to the broader Deep Learning Indaba mission of strengthening African participation, leadership and ownership in artificial intelligence.
02Our story
Community milestone
IndabaX Burundi began during mobilisation for the 2023 IndabaX programme. Bruno Ssekiwere reached out to Itangishaka John Esterique about establishing an IndabaX community in Burundi, and a local organising team was formed.

Community milestone
IndabaX Burundi entered a new phase: strengthening structured learning and research development, community connections, broader participation, responsible AI, measurable impact and clearer partner engagement while continuing the annual gathering.

A Burundi where people have the knowledge, skills, opportunities and connections to actively shape and benefit from artificial intelligence, and where AI contributes responsibly and inclusively to the country’s development and the well-being of its people.
To strengthen Burundi’s AI community by expanding access to knowledge and skills, supporting research and collaboration, connecting people and institutions, and promoting responsible and locally relevant participation in artificial intelligence.

IndabaX Burundi is part of the wider Deep Learning Indaba movement. It is locally organized and contributes to the broader mission of strengthening African participation, leadership and ownership in artificial intelligence. This relationship connects Burundi’s community with a broader African network.
